Doce Tonadas de Carácter Popular Chileno

All but forgotten outside of his home country of Chile since his death, Allende was a very important and influential composer during his lifetime. He attracted praise from composers including Debussy and Mompou, and his music was performed by some of the leading performers of his day including Ricardo Viñes.

Each of these pieces consists of a minor-key tonada, a genre of Chilean folk ballad, coupled with a cueca, a folk dance popular throughout the Southern Cone region, in the relative major.
